Fathers of a Nation
Abdul Sattar Edhi 28 February 1928- 8 July 2016.
He was a Pakistani philanthropist, ascetic and humanitarian.
He has founded the foundation of Edhi which runs all over the world.
After the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi, the Foundation is running his son
Faisal Edhi. And the wife of Abdul Sattar Edhi (Bilqui) also help him to runs the
Abdul Sattar Edhi was born in Batva, India. The seed of compassion for the suffering humanity
was sown in his soul by his Mother’s infirmity. When the Abdul Sattar Edhi at the age of eleven,
his Mother became paralyzed and got mentally ill. Abdul Sattar Edhi looking after all her need.
Edhi’s mother died when he was 19 years old. His personal experience made him think of thousands
and millions, suffering like his Mother. Then he thought that he established a welfare trust of his
own and named it as “Edhi trust”
An appeal was made for public funds. The response of the public was very good. The range and work of
Edhi trust welfare expanded.
Abdul Sattar Edhi was married in 1965 to Bilquis, a nurse who worked at the Edhi dispensary.
he has four children two daughters and two sons. The husband-wife team has come to share the common
vision of single-minded devotion.

- He began by working for the people of Karachi and went on to build
- centers offering various services.
- To reduce female infanticide a cradle was placed outside
- He also established orphanages which save over 50,000 babies.

Abdul Sattar Edhi called a father’s of a nation. It is because under the law of Pakistan he is a father
of thousands of children. so he called a Father’s of Nation.
He is also an Angel of mercy.
Abdul Sattar Edhi has an Islamic background. He strongly supports the Nation of working women.
they work in a various type of capacities in charges of Edhi centers. Edhi encourages women to do work
in all field of life.
On 25 June 2013, Edhi’s kidneys failed and he died on 8 July 2016 due to a failure of the kidney after having
been placed on a ventilator.
